a few more paintings, some work, some don’t!

I’ve been experimenting a lot lately, some successes, some scrape offs…well, TBH lots of those. that happens though when trying new stuff, and I’m someone who always likes to try the “what if I” route. I should have photo’s more of the non successes but usually i’m so annoyed I forget 😉
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been doing last few weeks.

This is an old one that’s a bit dull so I painted some bubbles on it.

playing with golds and glitter

Same colours as previous ones but must have used more white.
This was one that got swiped as it wasn’t going well, then dipped in run off and swiped again. I tried to make it more floral and it wasn’t ok as it was but its still one to put down to experience!
trying for a sliced rock effect ( too early in morning, proper name eludes me) Its had about four attempts now, and is as good its its going to get. Its got bit of crystals and slivers of glass added, plus mica paints and glitter. I should have made it more offside, perhaps a partial circle and the boat not so central. Still, its all learning what not to do next time. Its a 16×20 inch one.
this and the next were string pours, first attempt. I added the stamens while wet, should have waited til dry. these will be repoured but I learned again from them. Did one at the wekend with granddaughter Alesha and her’s was much better. After experimenting we found that embroidery thread worked better that the string and twines I’d been using.

had a nice sparkly green metallic on the black but was so dark. I like the fish but the weeds and flowers made it a fail. I like to play with ones i’m not happy with, sometimes it works and others it doesn’t!
the next four were all same colours, sadly this 20×20 in had too much white and when i’d gessoed over a previous work i’d left lines. I’ve put plaster over it now to create a texture base for a repour.
wasn’t happy so I pulled a hair pick comb through then tilted.
pulled the comb through just part of this and left the top which I liked as it was.
didn’t touch this one, came out just as i hoped, (rare that!) but shame its only 8 x 8 inches. why does that never happen on big canvasses???
This started as a ring pour, went pear shaped….as mine usually do but had some great sparks of colour which i pulled into stars. Sort of 😉
Alesha’s string pull wet.
when dry the pink has gone really dull, i’ve added a bit more over it but maybe as a transparent colour we needed to add some white to get it to show on the black. didn’t think at the time.
Alesha’s other painting, gold glitter on this one mixed with meduim to make a paint and some pink/blue glitter sprinkled on after. She did a dirty flip cup pour but we didn’t have enough paint and tilting lost the cells. she’s happy though and thats what counts.
another ring pour, the brown and blue gave me green which i didn’t expect…the blue is a very transparent greeny blue with white added, and i love the colour. Also used dark brown, a kind or sienna colour, some gold glitter mixed with medium and white.

This uses same colours as previous but looked sort of boring, then i swiped, swiped again, got a green mess, tried flipping over with a palette knife and made it worse. I let it cover canvas, mixed up more blue and white layers in a cup, added silicon plus sprayed over canvas with aerosol silicon and poured over. Torched and tilted and I like it now.

My string pull, I had a bit too much paint. I’d done a dirty pour but it looked bland so i tried string pulls over. So much paint though that the white wouldn’t flow over as i wanted. Tinkered with blue edges and – well, one to put down to experience. I learned string pulls work best with flexible string or thread and not too much paint on canvas!

These two both got scrapped for repour. first one was just a bit meh, dull, no real focus and the second- well, I love the pink and yellow where it touches the purple but the centre annoyed me. I tried pouring over the centre but it wasn’t a success.

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
